Bring It Inside!

When the weather outside won't cooperate, bring the experience indoors!  It's been raining for nearly a week with very little relief.  Our Gardening Projects haven't been what I'd hoped, so I made sure the kids could experience a bit of sunshine while in the classroom.

Bring in some small pots, artificial flowers, and a play watering can, and see what the kids do.  I included some playdough to put in the bottom on the flower pots so the flowers would stick upright.  The kids loved it!  Remember...we had been discussing gardening but didn't really have the chance to experience it - yet.

We also wanted to get a bit dirty, so we filled the Sensory Table with potting soil.  The opportunity to wear gardening gloves was probably the most popular part of this Play Area today!

What made me smile was listening to the kids talk about the parts of the flower.  They remembered the roots grow under the soil, the stem pops up next, then come the leaves and flower bed.

Ah...life is good when I can discuss the simple, beautiful things with little ones!

Later this week when the weather clears we will read Peter Rabbit, then search for him in our very own school garden!  Watch for updates!
